Tender, Supply and Install
Acacia Hills Farm, located in Acacia Hills Northern Territory, are the local growers of Calypso mangoes.
The management of the farm, covering over 350 acres, relied on manual watering methods. This approach was not only time-consuming and labour-intensive but also led to inconsistencies in irrigation, affecting the overall health and yield of the mango trees. The farm faced challenges related to scheduling and oversaturation, which can lead to substantial issues. Oversaturating or undersaturating crops, particularly when scheduling irrigation times, can result in significant costs.
In pursuit of a more dependable and economical irrigation system with enhanced durability and longevity, Acacia Hill Farms collaborated with an external party to create a master plan for the automation of their irrigation system needs. This strategic partnership aimed to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of their farm operations. Think Water Darwin was entrusted with the task of supplying and installing both the irrigation system and the telemetry system, as their preferred contractor for all their general day to day suppliers, as well as their system upgrade projects on a yearly basis.
Upon examination of the design plan, Think Water Darwin confidently affirmed the system’s suitability for the block of mangoes it needs to water . The six-week plan commenced with the installation and supply of 1 production bore pump and the remote controlled telemetry system.
The installation period was meticulously planned. It was crucial to avoid the wet season, for the water beneath the ground during that time would create issues for the installation team. To minimise disruption to business operations, the system was installed outside the harvesting and picking seasons.
Central to the new irrigation plan was the implementation of a remote telemetry system. With its connection to the solenoids 100’s of metres away , the system enables scheduled watering from a central location to ensure they have complete control of the irrigation cycles. This approach facilitates the efficient use of the hours in the day, even distribution of water and minimises manual labour needs.
Delivering on time and budget was a success on supplying and installing the new irrigation and telemetry system at Acacia Hills Farm. The seamless installation of the new system, coupled with the integrity of the pipework and pumps, has transformed the water management on the farm. This efficient system allows the farmers to optimise their watering schedule, ensuring a well-managed irrigation process.
