Acacia Hill Farm

Ongoing Irrigation Modernisation & Upgrades

Continuing the Partnership

Acacia Hill Farm (AHF), the Northern Territory’s esteemed grower of Calypso mangoes, continues its commitment to water efficiency and operational control by further building upon its automation system. This expansion integrates more of the farm’s vast 350-acre operation into the established central telemetry system, ensuring a high-performance, unified network.

The Challenge

With the core automated system successfully implemented, Acacia Hill Farm required the integration of additional plantation areas to achieve complete farm-wide efficiency. The challenge involved seamlessly expanding existing infrastructure and linking upgraded areas into the established mainline without disrupting operational control. This required precise integration of new valve stations, submains, and laterals into the reliable, existing network.

The Approach

As the trusted supplier and preferred contractor, Think Water Darwin was engaged to execute this strategic expansion. The primary focus was on extending the reach and control of the central irrigation system.

The project involved adding three new valve stations and strategically upgrading several existing ones. To facilitate this expansion, Think Water Darwin connected into existing mainlines and installed new submains and new laterals (the pipes delivering water directly to the mango trees). This comprehensive pipework ensured even and consistent water delivery across the newly integrated sections.

Crucially, all new and upgraded valve stations were immediately linked to the central telemetry system, which is housed in the farm’s main office. This integration was vital, as it allows the farm management to maintain the centralised control established in the previous installation.

The Outcome

This round of expansion was successfully completed and signed off, further solidifying Acacia Hill Farm’s modern irrigation management capabilities. By connecting the new and upgraded sections to the telemetry system, the farm now benefits from full remote visibility and control over these areas.

Farm management can now:

  • Monitor irrigation status in the expanded areas instantly.

  • Control pump activation and irrigation duration remotely.

  • Receive instant feedback on system performance, allowing for prompt diagnosis when components are not working correctly.

Acacia Hill Farm continues to enhance its efficiency in farming operations and water usage. The yearly strategic upgrades, executed by Think Water Darwin, keep them ahead of the game by ensuring maximum efficiency and minimal labour dependency across their growing operation.
